Homemade Soothing Headache Balm
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup coconut oil (solid or fractionated)
- 20 drops peppermint essential oil
- 12 drops lavender essential oil
- 10 drops frankincense essential oil
(Optional additions for extra benefits:)
- 1 tablespoon beeswax pellets (for a firmer balm)
- 5 drops eucalyptus essential oil (for cooling and sinus relief)
- 1 teaspoon shea butter (for a smoother texture)
Instructions:
- Melt the base oils:
In a small heatproof bowl, gently melt the coconut oil (and beeswax if using) using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts until fully liquid. - Add essential oils:
Remove from heat and let cool for about 1–2 minutes so it’s warm, not hot. Then stir in the peppermint, lavender, and frankincense essential oils. - Mix well:
Stir with a small spoon or glass rod to evenly distribute the oils. - Pour into container:
Pour the mixture into a small glass jar or metal tin (preferably dark glass to preserve the oils). Let it cool and solidify — this usually takes about 30–45 minutes at room temperature. - Store & use:
Keep the balm in a cool, dry place (or fridge in hot weather).
When you feel a headache coming on, rub a small amount onto your temples, neck, or wrists and inhale deeply.
Tips:
- For a roll-on version, skip the beeswax and pour the liquid mixture into a 10 ml roller bottle.
- Always test a small area of skin first to check for sensitivity.
- Shelf life: about 6 months if stored away from sunlight.
Would you like me to give you a version for sensitive skin or one that’s vegan and firmer (like a balm stick)?
